Gen Z Isnt Boring Were Just Alive

8 a.m. Pilates. No clubs. Green juice, not tequila.

You know the drill. We sleep early. We stay celibate. You call it boring. We call it protecting our peace.

Look, we get it. Other generations think we killed the party. Reddit is full of rants about how Gen Z lacks “fun.” They say we should stay up late. Be messy. Drink until we cant feel our faces.

But here is the thing they miss.

COVID broke our habit of being out every night. It stuck. We found quiet. And honestly? It feels good. The U.S. Surgeon Generals 2025 warning didnt help either. They linked alcohol to seven cancers. That scared us. A lot.

Singles life is a nightmare right now anyway. Women especially are opting for “boysober” lifestyles or just opting out of casual sex. Its not a punishment. Its a boundary.

“We’ve simply found quieter, healthier habits.”

Im 26. I see my generation preaching moderation. We want long-term health, not short-term regret. The idea that we are harming ourselves by skipping the bar is backward. It pressures us to act unhealthy in a world that is getting sickier. Cancer rates are up. The age of diagnosis is down. There is a diabetes crisis. The MAHA movement spreads bad info.

We are trying to survive the noise.

The Data Supports It

World Finance reports we drink 20 percent less alcohol than millennials did at our age. Sixty-one percent of us (18-30) went out less in the last year. The NTIA found this in 2025. Why? Two reasons.

One, mental health. We decline plans from people we do not care about. We say no to parties that drain us. Its self-care, not antisocial behavior.

Two, money. It is expensive to be sad at a bar. 68 percent of NTIA respondents cited the economy for staying home. 53 percent spend less on outings than last year.

Does this mean we are miserable? Hardly.

A 2026 Talkers survey shows Gen Z loves “at-home happy hours” more than anyone else. Hosted in a backyard. No cover charge. Better drinks.

Spending On Sanity

We are burning out less too. The 2024 Aflacl WorkForces Report shows only 56 percent of Gen Zer report high or moderate burnout. Millennials sit at 66 percent. Gen X is at 60 percent. We are figuring something out.

We throw money at wellness. McKinsey says 30 percent of Gen Z focuses “a lot more” on wellness than last year. We drive 41 percent of annual U.S. wellness spend. We are 36 percent of adults but buy half the gear.

  • Health trackers
  • Massage tools
  • IV drips
  • Mindfulness apps

We buy these things to not feel broken.

The physical results follow. A United Healthcare report says Gen Z has the lowest obesity rates. Only 9 percent of our women are obese. 5 percent of men. Boomers? 41 percent women, 39 percent men.

Do not get it twisted though. We doomscroll. Harvard Health says this causes headaches. Muscle tension. Bad sleep. High blood pressure. We know it hurts us.

But skipping every gathering because we fear stress? That helps no one. Isolation kills friendships. Balance is hard. We are still trying.

The Quiet Victory

We stand against the status quo by refusing to party ourselves to death. UNICEFs 2025 report shows over half of Gen Z says their stress-management activities work. Exercise helps. Sleep helps.

So roll your eyes. Call us dull.

Then try it. Eat dinner at 7. Sleep for nine hours. Workout in the morning. Cancel one plan on Friday night.

What is fun?

A bubble bath. A book. Waking up on time for Pilates at 10.

I am boring. I am happy.

What about you?
