The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is usually a stage for polite jabs. This year, President Donald Trump broke the script.
On Friday night, he didn’t just tease. He screamed.
His target was Rep. Ilhan Omar. Specifically, he demanded she leave. “Get the hell out of our country,” he said. The room went quiet. Or maybe it was just shock.
Trump spent his speech dismantling Democrats. But Omar got the brunt of the fire. He cited a viral video. It’s from 2025. A news conference clip. Omar misreads “World War II” as “World Eleven.” She corrects herself immediately. The clip loops. Conservatives share it without context. It looks bad. It is bad.
“She’s a low-IQ person,” Trump told the audience. “Very dishonest.”
Then came the other claim. Unfounded. Right-wing gossip amplified by the President himself. He suggested Omar married her brother to enter the United States from Somalia. He said they were “very much in love.” He claimed she calls him “husband number one.”
This theory has been debunked before. Omar has called it ridiculous. It makes no sense legally or logically. But Trump said it anyway. To a room full of donors and journalists.
Omar didn’t stay silent.
She responded on X. Her reply was direct.
“The idiot who runs our country says this… This should tell you how low IQ he is.”
She flipped the script. Trump is the one destroying the country. He’s making America a laughingstock. He needs to go. Not her.
This isn’t new behavior. Trump has targeted Omar for months.
Earlier this year, he posted on Truth Social. She should be in jail. Or worse. Sent back to Somalia. He called it one of the worst countries on Earth.
“Send them back from where they came,” he said in December. “Lowlifes like this.”
He called her ungrateful. A loser. A liability.
Omar pushed back then, too. She called his obsession with her “beyond weird.” She said he needs help. She noted he has no real economic policies. So he resorts to bigotry. Lies. Regurgitated hate.
It’s a pattern. Attack. Deny. Repeat.
The Correspondents’ Dinner speech was just the latest chapter. Trump tried to humiliate her. Instead, he highlighted his own lack of substance. Omar has weathered similar storms. She stays. She fights back.
And the rest of the world watches.
Is this leadership or performance? The line is blurring. But one thing is clear. The rhetoric isn’t going away. Neither is the backlash.
Trump wants her gone. She’s still here. For now.
